The VAAC Sponsors a variety of classes and educational
events held throughout the year, both at the WSAC and throughout
the community. As classes and events are added look here for

Classes – Fall 2009

Ready, Set, Draw!
Session I, six weeks: Tuesdays, Sept. 1Oct 6 from 3:455:00 pm
(Class A) and 6:307:45 p.m. (Class B): $40 for VAAC members; $45 non-members.
Session II, eight weeks: Tuesdays, Oct. 13Dec. 1, from 3:455:00 pm (Class A)
and 6:307:45 p.m. (Class B): Fee: $55 members; $60 non-members.
Ready, Set, Draw! is a class for children in Kindergarten through 6th
grades. This step-by-step drawing class uses methods proven to
increase children’s understanding and mastery of drawing principles
using pencil, paper, and dry media. We explore concepts such as
perspective, pattern, composition, ground, properties of color, use of
materials, and more by studying the world around us and works of the
old masters, newer artists, and tribal and ancient art. The class
focuses on each artist’s success, understanding, and enjoyment of the
process of drawing. All supplies provided, no special clothes or
smocks needed.

Center.

Ready,
Set, Draw with Me!

Fees for either session: Members: $40 per pair, $45 per non-member pair.
Ready, Set, Draw with Me! is a class for children ages 3 – 6 and their
helper (friend or family member aged 14 years or older). This
step-by-step drawing class teaches children and adults the basic
elements of drawing and composition. Parents and mentors will benefit
by learning techniques they can use outside the classroom. Both
participants create their own drawings but interaction between mentor
and child is essential and encouraged. The classes focus on
drawing
what children like and are familiar with in a style that is
developmentally appropriate with an emphasis on each artist’s success
and enjoyment. All supplies provided, no special clothes or
smocks
needed.

Cartooning and Illustration
Saturdays, Sept. 19, 26, and Oct. 3
1-2:15 p.m.
Learn basic illustration and cartooning techniques. Ages 8 and up.
Three Saturday sessions: Sept. 19, 26, and Oct. 3.
All materials are provided.
Price: $25 VAAC members, $30 non-members. (The Sept. 26 session will be held upstairs at the Arts Center).

Silk Scarf Painting
Saturday, Sept. 26

Learn the mechanics of silk painting with Black Hills silk landscape artist Shirley Jane Hobbs.
Cost: $60 + $12 supplies = $72.
