Ready, Set, Draw! is a class for children in Kindergarten through 6th grades.  This step-by-step drawing class uses methods proven to increase children’s understanding and mastery of drawing principles using pencil, paper, and dry media.  We explore concepts such as perspective, pattern, composition, ground, properties of color, use of materials, and more by studying the world around us and works of the old masters, newer artists, and tribal and ancient art.  The class focuses on each artist’s success, understanding, and enjoyment of the process of drawing.  All supplies provided, no special clothes or smocks needed.

Classes held in the basement classroom of the Washington Street Arts Center.

Ready, Set, Draw with Me! is a class for children ages 3 – 6 and their helper (friend or family member aged 14 years or older).  This step-by-step drawing class teaches children and adults the basic elements of drawing and composition. Parents and mentors will benefit by learning techniques they can use outside the classroom.  Both participants create their own drawings but interaction between mentor and child is essential and encouraged.  The classes focus on drawing what children like and are familiar with in a style that is developmentally appropriate with an emphasis on each artist’s success and enjoyment.  All supplies provided, no special clothes or smocks needed.
